Camp Royal Leadership Camp

Camp Royal is a leadership training program for high school juniors, funded and run by Rotary District 5160.  Founded in 1979, Camp Royal has become one of the top leadership camps for incoming high school seniors in the country.

Moraga Rotary provides two scholarships to Campolindo High School juniors to attend Camp Royal every June.  For more information, contact us, or visit the Rotary District 5160 website, at the link below.

Student leaders from throughout the district attend to develop advanced skills with help from Rotarians, professional counselors, educators and keynote speakers.  And a day in the "Ropes Course" lets students experience team building and successful cooperation.

The program is held mid-June in the Trinity Alps, and is a concentrated, energy packed week of information, ideas and strategies that will help the camper return to his/her school and be a more affective leader.

The Camp's goals are:

  • To offer advanced leadership skills to young men and women who have had experience in leadership positions.
  • To emphasize cooperation, team building, excellent ethics and creativity in leadership.
  • To broaden their knowledge of various vocations through interaction with Rotarians of District 5160.
  • To assist the campers to realize their great potentials, and break through the barriers to success.
  • To actively apply their new leadership skills when they return to school.

Global Grant Scholarships:

The Rotary Foundation's oldest and best-known program, the Ambassadorial Scholarship, was founded in 1947.  Since then, nearly 38,000 men and women from about 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices.

Moraga Rotary's District 5160, as a Rotary Future Vision Pilot District, will offer a Global Grant Scholarship replacing the Ambassadorial Scholarship. The Global Grant Scholarship will provide one academic year of post baccalaureate studies in one of the six areas of focus established by the Rotary Foundation:

  • Peace & Conflict Resolution
  • Disease Prevention & Treatment
  • Water & Sanitation
  • Maternal & Child Health
  • Basic Education & Literacy
  • Economic & Community Development

The purpose of the Scholarship program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries and geographical areas.  While abroad, scholars serve as goodwill ambassadors to the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups.  Upon returning home, scholars share with Rotarians and others the experiences that led to a greater understanding of their host country.

Moraga Rotary recently sponsored one Global Grant Scholar who attended the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and attained a Master's Degree.  For more information, visit the Rotary District 5160 or the Rotary International website links below.

Group Study Exchanges:

The Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for businesspeople and professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers.  The program provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits in paired areas of different countries.  For four to six weeks, team members experience the host country's culture and institutions, observe how their vocations are practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas.

In a typical four-week tour, applicants participate in five full days of vocational visits, 15 to 20 club presentations, 10 to 15 formal visits and social events, two to three days at the district conference, three to four hours per day of cultural and site tours, and three to four hours per day of free time with host families.

For each team member, the Foundation provides the most economical round-trip airline ticket between the home and host countries. Rotarians in the host area provide for meals, lodging, and group travel within their district.
